Marisa Abela celebrates BAFTA win for ‘Industry’ season three

Marisa Abela has celebrated winning her first BAFTA award for her performance as Yasmin Kara-Hanani in Industry season three.

The actress was one of the big winners of last night’s (May 11) ceremony, taking home the Leading Actress award for the BBC and HBO show.

Abela has since celebrated her win, reposting a series of Instagram Stories from the afterparties, including from Industry co-creator Mickey Down showing her cracking open a bottle of champagne with her statuette in the foreground.

In another clip, Down and fellow creator Konrad Kay are seen embracing alongside Abela’s BAFTA, while the actress shared a further video of herself dancing with her statuette.

Among the supportive Stories the star reposted was one from Schitt’s Creek‘s Dan Levy, who said she gave “one of the great performances of the year”, adding: “Congrats, pal!”

In her tearful acceptance speech earlier in the evening, Abela said: “I really wasn’t expecting that at all, thank you so much. This is insane. I booked Industry when I was in my final year of drama school, and my agent who signed me in my first final year show is here tonight.”

The actress went on to thank many others, including her fiancé and mother, as well as the show’s “brilliant” cast, while also sharing gratitude to Down and Kay.

“Yasmin changed my life. I started off carrying salads into that office, but you really allowed me to take it wherever I wanted to take it,” she said. “And you just wrote with such excitement and such ferociousness, and it allowed me to just go for it. And I thank you so, so much for that.”

The other big winners at the BAFTAs included ITV’s Mr Bates Vs. The Post Office, which took home Best Limited Drama as well as winning a Special Recognition Award, while the BBC’s Mr. Loverman also won two – Best Actor for Lennie James and Best Supporting Actor for Ariyon Bakare.

Fellow acting winners included Baby Reindeer‘s Jessica Gunning for Best Supporting Actress (the Netflix show’s only win of the night), Mr Bigstuff‘s Danny Dyer for Best Male Comedy Performance, Gavin & Stacey‘s Ruth Jones for Best Female Comedy Performance, and Joe Lycett for Best Entertainment Performance.

Additionally, police drama Blue Lights won Best Drama Series, while Alma’s Not Normal won Best Scripted Comedy and Shōgun won Best International Programme.

In other news, Industry is gearing up for its fourth season, with new cast additions including Harold & Kumar‘s Kal Penn, Stranger Things‘ Charlie Heaton, Meet Joe Black‘s Claire Forlani, Twisters‘ Kiernan Shipka, Towards Zero‘s Jack Farthing, Ted Lasso‘s Toheeb Jimoh and Three Families’ Amy James-Kelly.
